I, Luis Guzman Jr. and my 6 siblings are byproducts of a hardworking mother and risk-taking father (Eloina Pizano & Luis Guzman Sr). By splitting time between my father’s small town of Cepio, Guanajuato, Mexico and Joliet, Illinois, I got the opportunity to view life from many perspectives.

 

A theme that never changed no matter what the circumstances were was the importance of achieving as a family and supporting one another. Our time spent stateside opened opportunities for my sisters to seek higher educations and my brothers to seek business opportunities. Cepio taught me resiliency and self-reliance. Respect for life on the farm is something that was engrained in me from a young child, learning that nothing worth having comes easy.

 

Passion for working with horses was almost an unspoken rite of passage that was passed down from my grandfather to my father, who later passed it down to me. I continue the tradition by teaching my children, Luis III and Melanie, to care for these majestic creatures.
